St. Petersburg Russia is well known worldwide for its museums, palaces, theatres and so on. Here we do not intend to repeat this fact. We just want to make an accent on some details.
First thing that you may face at museum’s ticket office is different price for Russian citizens and for foreigners. Base price is the high but for Russians they make a discount. Despite of some opinions, this practice is legal. It is because of all museums are state owned, so by this way they care about Russian citizens. But when you compare the preciousness of exhibited patterns with the price, you will definitely find the price as benefit one. Moreover, the same prices for France, Great Britain, United States museums are higher.
Further, despite of many museums in the city, most of them are in tremendous demand in the peak season. Especially it may be told about the most famous museums – Hermitage, Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo and others. The number of tourists has been increasing during the past years while the number of museums remains the same. This is one reason because of what we sometimes have long ticket-queues of tourists in front of the entrances of museums. For example, you may waste up to 4 hours while waiting at the Hermitage ticket office at the weekends of peak season! That is why we do recommend you to book the tickets in advance.
And one more detail. For tourist groups it is often necessary to have a licensed guide. This urgent request is made because of museum’s care about the professional excursions and correct answers for tourist questions (it is surprising, but there are very well-read and curious tourists with different questions). Moreover, unorganized crowds of tourists often stop circulation inside the museums that makes almost impossible to listen to excursion for other groups.
